Independent life
The development of capabilities for living an independent life is a fundamental component of a life that has value, security and meaning.
In order to foster the individual’s ability to integrate and develop within society, an integrative response is needed such that reenforces the recipient’s physical, emotional, economic and social abilities. Physical independence allows for a sense of control and security, whereas emotional independence provides the ability to deal with life’s challenges. Economic independence affords freedom of choice and a sense of value, and social independence cultivates a sense of belonging and community. The promotion of these capabilities is the foundation for the active and meaningful engagement with society and for the realization of personal and social potential.
